David Carmichael started in 1888 as a blacksmith and in 1895 he partnered with William Myers to build Wagons and Carriages. By 1901 Myers was no longer part of the company and David Carmichael continued the business until shortly after 1910.

Franklin Carmichael started his painting career striping wagons in his fathers shop. A 1904 register from Central School listed Franklin as a student who was absent for up to four weeks from school. You can assume he was working in his fathers shop as man
